The Pelican, Froxfield March 2007

GEOGRAPH

Froxfield, Wiltshire

We stayed at The Pelican, Froxfield, where the food was excellent; the rooms rather bare.

With a little sensitive interior decoration and a small injection of funds we thought this could be a very good pub/restaurant.

It's also convenient to good walking areas and the attractive town of Marlborough (pronounced morl not marl). We paused at Highworth, an attractive market town offering a comfortable lunch at The Saracen's Head (Arkells bitter)

We walked to a white horse cut in the hillside, along the Kennet and Avon canal, through delightful parkland and visited very good pubs. We saw several very interesting churches and the ancient sites of Silbury Hill, West Kennet longbarrow and the standing stones at Avebury. One day we had lunch at the Wagon and Horses in Beckhampton - good old pub, good beers, don't take the table near the grim loos ....

All our history is here, in Wiltshire ....
