The White Horse, Empingham
April-May 2006

GEOGRAPH

The White Horse, Empingham

Some 20 rooms and a busy hotel / restaurant / pub. Comfortable inexpensive accommodation and most acceptable food and drink. Timothy Taylor Landlord, Grainstore and Adnams bitter. The building was originally a 17th century courthouse. Visit their website here. Ignore a brochure which claims it has a lakeside location ....

We stayed here for 3 nights while we walked around the area of Rutland water. Lots to do and see whether you're a walker, cyclist, church collector or foodie.

This is a peaceful area of considerable charm - a "hidden gem" for fit fifties folks but with plenty of climbing biking and boating for active youngsters.

dovecoteThe Dovecote at Empingham

This may be 16th century and looks to be in pretty good condition.

It lies in a field just round the corner from the White Horse and at the start of our circular walk.
