Overlooking the River Deben near Woodbridge.

March 2001

GEOGRAPH

The Ramsholt Arms is beautifully placed on the river Deben ...

... at the end of a road from Woodbridge through Bawdsey and beyond. There is boating on the river - a smuggler's paradise perhaps?

Nearby is Sutton Hoo, site of the acclaimed Anglo-Saxon treasures. Though now mostly in the British Museum, the new visitor's centre gives an excellent overview of Anglo Saxon times.

Pleasant walking across moorland. Owners (2001) a little eccentric perhaps but we enjoyed our stay and our hostess gave us separate rooms though we had booked to share (good move because of snoring Duncan).
