Standing Stones, Avebury

 
Standing Stones at Avebury Ring.

The ring of stones at Avebury are of international historical importance.Tthough vandalised several centuries ago and only partly preserved, they may even be older than ring at Stonehenge.

Our visit was in dull weather but was lightened by the cloaked figure of a man with an animal horn and a staff. We guessed he was a Druid or some-such, though he could have been a badly dressed shopkeeper on his day off.

The stones attract odd fellows - ageing hippies with long hair and tie-dyed tee-shirts. Even four mysterious blokes with boots and remaining wisps of hair blowing in the wind ...
