Scanning the golf course at Nefyn

July 2016

Caernarvonshire - Porth Madog, Nefyn

Staying at The Royal Sportsman at Porth Madog we were staying in Caernarvonshire though we ventured out to Merionethshire for short walks too. For our main walk we drove west to Nefyn and walked along the Wales Coast Path which took us along cliff tops with fine views of beautiful crescent bays, sometimes descending to beach level for example to take lunch at the Ty Coch Inn. We followed Walking World id3957.

On Friday evening the streets of Porth Madog were alive with young people celebrating an unlikely victory by Wales over Belgium in the European Cup. On Saturday night they were still celebrating in the pubs - "Take me home ... Please Don't Take Me Home!"

Despite the endless sprawl of golf course whose velvet greens and toy electric carts have pushed aside the natural wild grasses this was a good and varied walk in fine weather. Golfers do keep the weeds down.

In the excellent Ty Coch Inn John calculates our expenses. The Inn is on a promontary which once featured an iron age hill fort (around 100BC). The steep ditches and earth banks are just visible, though obscured by the golf course.
