I am Duncan Grey and I am a freelance educational consultant and a "portfolio worker".

What does that mean?

It means I'm self-employed (no longer summoned by bells) after 26 years in the classroom as a secondary school English teacher, Head of Learning Resources at Hinchingbrooke School, and at various times INSET coordinator and Web Master.

It also means that I have a wide range of skills and interests which include:

• Writing ("100 Essential Lists for Teachers" was published by Continuum in Spring 2003); Grey's Educational Miscellany (2005), Getting the Buggers to Learn in the spring of 2006 and The First Aid Kit for Teachers in May 2007; The Internet in School (second edition) is now out of print but I have a few spare copies if you get in touch. I'm continually revising existing materials which feature at www.putlearningfirst.com and have just published The Plague Disaster Project and Hold the Front Page available from Zigzag. I've written materials for ProQuest, Learn.co.uk / Teachernet and helped produce a course CD for A Level English Language students for BECTA .
I currently write a How To column for the Times Educational Supplement Magazine.

• Website design and maintenance: for example Hinchingbrooke School, Put Learning First (which has several individual sites within it including Language in Use), The Shelford Feast, Samuel Pepys' Diaries, Peer Support, In and Out Inns .... If you'd like a website designed for you, start here. I'm also Portal Manager for the Cambridgeshire County Council Education website.

• Giving Talks and Training - for Lighthouse and The Cambridge Education Consortium on "English and ICT" , "Making Your School Website Work for You," "Making Curriculum use of your Resources Centre" as well as training teachers on producing their own resources for the Cambs Education Portal. I train also on teaching and learning and information literacy (School Library Association Annual Conference amongst other schools, associations and colleges).

• Research - for the Cambridge Academy of Transport (CATZ) where I'm involved in an EU "Marco Polo" project providing training for Freight Integrators. For myself I am also working on an MSc at Leeds on teaching and learning using ICT.

So if you'd like to ask me to do any of this, or anything similar, for you - go ahead! No job too small!
