Hold the Front Page offers practical activities helping pupils to write clearly and factually and showing what to look for in newspapers and broadcasts. The project is available from ZigZag Education.

The starter activities are self-enclosed or could be starter activities leading up to a news simulation. Materials are provided for that too.

Why newspapers?
Newspapers are a really useful resource for English teachers -

• they're cheap,
• disposable,
• constantly renewed,
• always topical,
• are mainly a written medium,
• have features which fit perfectly into several National Curriculum targets.
