Chocolate Names


Words do not exist alone. Words have connotations and associations above and beyond their literal meaning.

Sometimes these connotations are related to the origin of the word, sometimes because of who uses the word or where it is commonly used.

What connotations are being used in the following names from Terry's "Moonlight" collection?

The first example shows

What is lost and what is gained by having a simplified description?

Moonshine
A rich chocolate truffle laced with fine rum
(Truffle with rum plus chocolate covering)

For the following chocolates write a simple description describing the contents of the sweet

Hazelnut Cup
A whole roasted hazelnut floating in caramel

Now you're on your own.

1. Choose ten chocolates to go in a box

2. Choose a theme for the box and that theme must be echoed in the names of the sweets.

3. Describe the sweets in an appealing way.

4. Homework. Research boxes of chocolates! Describe them before you eat them!
