Weather Forecasts Transcripts

BBC News lunchtime television news

Good afternoon (.) as that picture suggests (.) winter has returned to parts of the British Isles this weekend (.) and its wintry weather with a vengeance (.) and really severe conditions developing over northern Scotland blizzards there (.) heavy snowfall strong winds (1) survival conditions really up in the mountains of Scotland not a place to be (.) this weekend (.) that’s how the weather’s looking through the weekend probably most of that wintry weather will be across much of Scotland by Sunday perhaps some brighter skies just edging into the northern isles (.) with some of that wintry weather (.) slip (.) dipping south over the border into Northern England (.) now gale force winds and temperatures below freezing I mentioned survival conditions (.) these are the sort of temperatures it’s going to feel like and up into the mountains of Scotland (.) well it’s going to feel as though the temperature is 20° (.) below freezing and that along with those blizzards not very nice at all (.) now we’re expecting some disruption from this particularly for northern and eastern parts of Scotland (.) and as that snowfall slips southwards well south. West Scotland (.) and Northern parts of England are going to be affected (.) now there’s problems with too much snow and strong winds in the alps as well (.) you may’ve noticed Grandstand was due to cover the men’s and women’s downhill at St Anton (.) well they’ve both been postponed until next week yes too much snow I should say and the wind’s too strong there (.). In fact we’ve got a drier slot from London up across to Belfast but later in the day more () rain coming in from the south-west and that wintry weather just easing southwards (.) and just look at the transitions in the temperatures (.)11 down the Channel Islands ( )-1 especially in the Northern Isles ( ) we’ve got low pressure sitting over us we’re sitting in the transition zone between mild air in the south, cold air to the north (.) and that’s very much how it’s gonna stay as we go through the week ahead (.) more little lows crossing in the country more weather fronts that means wet and windy weather (.) it’s been looking this morning (.) you can see here we’ve got a lot of cloud showing up on the satellite sequence (.) and there’ll be more wet weather around during tomorrow across many areas

BBC 6:30 South Today Weather with Dorcas

I have hit the bulls eye with the weather over the weekend (.) and into today as well with the ridge of high pressure we have got a band of cloud out to the west (.) high cloud beginning to filter in though but some good clear spells with some sunshine today that weather front though is coming our way (.) in fact now’s a good time to set your barometer (.) that ridge is going to give way as this drop of low pressure and weather fronts cloud and outbreaks of rain push eastwards later tonight and through tomorrow hut (.) erm not many bright colours in there indicating that the rain will be light and patchy in nature we have got temperature beginning to drop away already under those clear skies reaching around 2 or 3 degrees and (.) we will see a fairly wide air frost developing at least for a time but in the west and by the coast we will see the frost lifting around 2 Celcius here by the end of the night but still temperatures below freezing inland some mist and fog patches at first lifting but (.) still some icy patches likely around by the end of the night but by that time (.) a good deal of cloud around (.) and already some outbreaks of rain coming in the west (.) they are going to creep their way eastwards throughout the day generally light but possibility of some heavier outbursts (.) feeling rather cold though with a fairly brisk wind and in the inland they will really have a nasty bite to them (.) things are going to stay reasonably unsettled though (.) some wet weather to come on Thursday but it looks like Friday is going to be drier and quieter

Sky ITN Weather

The satellite shows plenty of cloud pushing southwards across Britain bringing light rain and drizzle clearer skies to the west a mass of cloud in the Atlantic (.) patchy cloud and clear spells for most of Scotland but rain and sleet pushing from the west Northern England will be mainly clear (.) but clouds and light rain will push in to the far west an overcast night with spells of rain across Ireland (.) breezy with moderate to fresh winds (.) Wales and the Midlands will be dry cold and frosty with clear spells and (.) mist and fog patches light rain and plenty of mist patches in the south west (.) tonight although it will be fairly mild a cold and dry night in the south east with patchy clouds and plenty of clear spells temperature will drop down to around zero to minus 2 degrees celsius in central and eastern areas 3 to 5 degrees wildly to the west tomorrow temperatures will only reach 4 – 6 degrees celsius in many central eastern parts 8 – 10 degrees in the west cloudy and wet tomorrow with plenty of rain even sleet drier and brighter on Friday Saturday will see further outbreaks of rain Sunday will see a day of sunny spells and showers.
