How we can get things moving

Film Language

Film has a language, a syntax, which is generally understood implicitly by viewers who are then usually unable to explicitly describe it. Film studies courses identify and describe the elements of this code and encourage students to examine its effects on the viewer.

An understanding of film language can make the critical viewer aware of the techniques used to persuade us. It is therefore a part of the English and the Citizenship curriculum.
