It is Information
and Communication Technology which has enabled ready access to digital
film in the form of inexpensive cameras with low light capability, inexpensive
editing software, increasing numbers of laptops, QuickTime technology,
web cams and video conferencing from the desktop, digital projectors...
ICT is an essential
element in the National Curriculm - both a subject in itself, given
curriculum time, and also a thread which appears in every other subject.
It may be that Film
can learn from ICT and its model of introduction (including its mistakes
and the appreciation of its cost) as well as harnessing its strengths
to provide, say, an editing suite on every desktop. Still digital cameras
are universal in schools - can ICT make cam-corders equally common and
useful?
