Film is a nineteenth
century medium; video is a twentieth century medium.
The 21st century
offers integration of increasingly sophisticated moving and interactive
images and text. As we develop versions of virtual reality we see that
film is a stepping stone towards full virtual reality and interactivity.
Virtual field trips have real potential.
At the moment we
must rely on short and small film clips alongside full colour, still
graphics and extensive text, but continued improvements in broadband
delivery mean that mixed media, including film, tied to ICT, can deliver
complex scenarios and offers complex means of self expression.
The internet could
be seen as the launch pad for digital film making.
