Editing and Writing in Style The ability to edit existing writing to improve clarity or to repurpose it for another audience or medium and the ability to write in a given style are important life skills which are tested by the English Language A/AS course. Some advice is available from the Plain English Society to eradicate gobbledygook and replace it with plain English. A knowledge and appreciation of different registers and domains is also very important if you are to write successfully in an appropriate style. An effective way of becoming familiar with a domain is to read or listen to a quantity of output in that register. You will absorb typical features and should make notes of useful phrases, common vocabulary etc for future use.
